4 Fun Things to Do in Allendale

As a college town with high on and off campus populations, Allendale plays host to a variety of student activities.

1. Grand Ravines Dog Park

Friends At Student Apartments In Allendale, MI

Friendly and loyal, dogs make great college pets. And many apartments in Allendale are pet friendly. One place that’s popular for GVSU students to take their pets is the Grand Ravines Dog Park. This 21-acre park features night lighting, doggy fountains, and enclosed trails for off-leash walks. Alternatively, some off campus housing communities have dog parks on-site. If school responsibilities have left you short on time, or you’re too tired to travel to a more distant location with your pet, an on-site park is nice to have.

2. RiverTown Crossings

Shopping is an activity that can be made more amusing by the venue. When students in GVSU apartments want to shop and have fun, they head to RiverTown Crossings. A short drive from the campus area, this mall boasts a food court, carousel, and 20-screen cinema. Sephora, Macy’s, GameStop, and Express are popular stores. And students can also pick up books at Barnes & Noble Booksellers (textbooks, on the other hand, are available from the GVSU Laker Store on campus).

3. The Meadows at Grand Valley State University

If golf is your sport, The Meadows at Grand Valley State University is the course for you. From putting and chipping practice to 18-hole rounds, this course enables players to work on all parts of their game. At 7,060 yards, meanwhile, the tree-lined championship course tests the mettle of even the most skilled golfers. Yet, with five sets of tees available, beginner players also have tee boxes to swing from. Plus, the course is walking-distance from GVSU housing. So grab your clubs — or rent a set from the clubhouse — and hit the links with friends for hours of healthy and affordable fun.

4. Lakers Sports

Whether you’re a sports fan or you just enjoy being a member of the Lakers family, on campus sports events serve as social gatherings for your peers. Residents of off campus housing often walk or carpool to these events in groups, as well. Each year, Lakers football is a highlight of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). And the men’s and women’s teams for basketball, baseball, golf, and cross-country are lauded on the national stage, as well. Plus, you can count on seeing Louie the Laker on the sidelines for it all. Pike 51 Brewery

From going out with friends to watching the ballgame, Pike 51 Brewery is a great setting for nighttime student activities. In addition to craft beverages, this restaurant serves up affordable appetizers and entrees.

Premium Study Spots

When life turns hectic, a quiet study spot is nice to have. At 48 West, we’ve made a list of the study areas most used by our residents.

Dedicated Study Rooms

Because they are sound-proof and private, study rooms in the university library allow students to focus. On the grounds of off campus apartments, students also have private study areas available. And given that they’re close-to-home and centrally located in the complex, off campus study rooms tend to be the most convenient.

Student Apartment Bedrooms

Unlike dorms and traditional apartments, GVSU apartments come with private, individually keyed bedrooms. In furnished housing, the bedrooms also feature desks, chairs, and study lights. Student apartments, therefore, provide the type of environment where residents feel encouraged to work to their best abilities.
